With a focus on innovation, EXPLORE is a NEXT GEN ship dedicated to inspiring vessels of the coming decade. With regard to sustainability, EXPLORE is a ship with a positive impact on the environment. The goal of that new initiative is to help the marine industry to accelerate ecological transition, protecting the oceans and respecting marine wildlife.

EXPLORE will be a vessel devoted to Ocean and to Science, powered by renewable energies. It is a carbon-free ship that aims to achieve energy autonomy with zero fine particles and noise. Its mission : To seal all the oceans to study and understand the impact of climate change and the ecological crisis facing the world’s oceans. With a crew of scientists, researchers, adventurers and divers, EXPLORE is a real floating laboratory dedicated to solving ocean mysteries. Its mission is also to seal across the globe to raise public awareness and educate the young generation.

The global maritime industry is facing a critical period and needs to embrace the future. Emerging digital technologies, climate crisis and the oceans pollution will have a profound impact on the industry in the coming decade. EXPLORE will inspire maritime decision-makers to work together to shape the future of the industry.

The first mission of EXPLORE is to seal all the oceans across the globe for Science. We created EXPLORE to find solutions to climate change, ocean acidification, overfishing, and marine pollution.

Over 90 percent of world trade is carried across the world’s oceans by some 90,000 marine vessels. Like all modes of transportation that use fossil fuels, ships produce carbon dioxide emissions that significantly contribute to global climate change and acidification. Ships are responsible for roughly 3% of global CO2 and GHG emissions (CO2-eq), emitting approximately 1 billion tonnes of CO2 and GHGs per year, on average from 2007 to 2012. Ship CO2 emissions will increase 50%–250% from 2012 to 2050.

Alban Michon is a specialist in the extreme. In 2010, he embarked on a 45-day adventure to the geographical North Pole, then in 2012, he headed to Greenland for ‘Le Piège Blanc’ (The White Trap) expedition. He runs the ice diving school in Tignes (Savoie, France) and has transformed it into a real training centre for divers for polar expedition diving teams.

A real fan of the polar regions and deep-sea diving, Alban Michon is a French adventurer and explorer who has gone on some exceptional expeditions. In 2010, he went diving at the geographical North Pole. In 2012, he travelled 1,000km in a sea kayak along the Greenland coast, and went diving under the icebergs there.
Alban Michon has always had a marked taste for adventure. He discovered deep-sea diving at age eleven and he had only just turned eighteen when he began working as an instructor at the beginning of the season in Corsica and Porquerolles. At age 22, he bought the Tignes ice diving school (Savoie, France), then the Vasques du Quercy deep-sea diving school centre (Lot, France).
