WE CELEBRATE THE WORLD OCEAN DAY
World Ocean Day is an international day that takes place annually on 8 June. The concept was originally proposed in 1992 by Canada’s International Centre for Ocean Development (ICOD) and the Ocean Institute of Canada (OIC) at the Earth Summit – UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. « World Oceans Day » was officially recognised by the United Nations in 2008. O'DYSSEY THE OCEAN DAY
PART OF THE UNITED NATIONS DECADE OF THE ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION

Our non profit organization Free Spirit is an official partner and an actor of the United Nations on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030. The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, for the benefit of people and nature. It aims to halt the degradation of ecosystems, and restore them to achieve global goals. Only with healthy ecosystems can we enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change, and stop the collapse of biodiversity.
Restoring oceans and coasts means reducing the pressure on those ecosystems so they can recover, both naturally and by re-seeding or transplanting key species. It also means understanding how to make both ecosystems and communities more resilient in the face of global change.

O'DYSSEY THE OCEAN DAY
PART OF THE UNITED NATIONS DECADE OF OCEAN SCIENCE

Our non profit organization Free Spirit is an official partner of the UNITED NATIONS Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. our event called O’DYSSEY the ocean day has been endorsed to the Ocean Decade.
The vision of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) is the « science we need for the ocean we want ». The Ocean Decade is a convening framework for diverse stakeholders to co-design and co-deliver solution-oriented research needed for a well-functioning ocean in support of the 2030 Agenda. Capacity development, ocean literacy and the removal of barriers to full gender, generational, and geographic diversity are essential elements of the Decade.

WE HIGHLIGHT
THE SOLUTIONS
PROTECTING THE OCEANS
Protecting ocean ecosystems from plastic pollution is one of the defining environmental imperatives of our time. The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) says 8 million tonnes of plastic waste end up in our oceans every year, and forecasts suggest this could double by 2025 if we don’t take drastic action.
O’DYSSEY – The ocean day plans to highlight several solutions :
<– For instance, The SeaCleaners plans to collect floating plastic waste in high concentration areas before it sinks or breaks down into microplastics.
AN EVENT FOR THE YOUNG GENERATION TOO
Children can come, play and learn during the event. We aim to enable the young generation to learn more about climate change and how to protect the ocean.
